About Tarrawarra Abbey2022-08-24T21:42:30+00:00

Tarrawarra Abbey is a Catholic monastic community of Cistercian monks based in Victoria’s Yarra Valley.

The primary goal of a monk’s life is to seek God in prayer. The entire day is structured around communal prayer: celebration of the Eucharist and chanting of the Liturgy of the Hours. Communal prayer is supported by personal prayer, meditation, and sacred reading (lectio divina). We live a simple life, seeking a balance between prayer, work and study.

Christian monastic tradition has always insisted that monks work to support themselves. Besides operating a beef farm and a monastic guesthouse, the ongoing supply and distribution of Eucharistic breads to parishes, schools and religious communities around Australia and New Zealand is a vital part of our economy.

Your support in purchasing our Eucharistic breads contributes to sustaining the work, mission, and life of our monks. We are grateful for your continuing support. You remain always in our prayers.
